selfish

for a while i wondered

why people were selfish


i understood about getting what you want

i have felt that way


but so many are willing to lie

about who they are


and not because they want to cheat me

but because of their eagerness

to deny their self

and create a cover story


to completely deny who you are

with no desire to ever face the truth of ones self

is a crime against life

and against us all

the birds and the bees and the flower and the trees


and the greatest self imposed  punishment of all


that is probably a clue


punishment


the desire for punishment

is obviously an expression of self pity
